A Los Angeles native, Ms. Helen Yu Leseberg began her love of music at the ripe age of 5 by learning to play keyboards. She recorded her first album in high school at Westlake Studios, and spent her teen years interning at the indie tastemaker Enigma Records. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication from Cal State Northridge, where she promoted live shows locally in conjunction with the famed KCSN. She received her Juris Doctor from Whittier College in 1993 graduating with Honors. Ms. Yu Leseberg worked in private practice at a well known Los Angeles entertainment law firm. She subsequently practiced in-house at Virgin Records and Sony Pictures Entertainment Group throughout the 1990s.  In 1999, she founded the Los Angeles entertainment firm - Yu Leseberg, A Professional Law Corporation.

With over 25 years of success in music intellectual property and entertainment law, Helen Yu is one is of the most well-respected attorneys in the music industry. Following stints in-house at Virgin Records America, Sony Pictures, Legacy entertainment law firm, and Cohen & Cohen, Helen founded her own practice, Yu Leseberg, A Professional Law Corporation. Known for her vigorous negotiations for clients coupled with strategic business counseling, Helen has secured a substantial history of successful victories.

Whether it is recovering record setting copyright estates on behalf of heirs, or Artist advocacy, Helen has been a consistent trailblazer in the music business.  Her practice has taken to the forefront of moving hip-hop’s culture forward in music, executing deals resulting in billions of streams, sales, and chart-topping hits.

The firm’s early days included representing producer, director, and choreographer extraordinaire Wade Robson, who was a major creative force behind superstar artists such as Britney Spears, NSYNC, Justin Timberlake, Back Street Boys, Mandy Moore and Aaron Carter.

As the 2000’s entered, the firms’ clients included various members, producers and songwriters of alt. hip-hop group, The Black Eyed Peas, whom subsequently secured numerous GRAMMYS and landed Billboard Hot 100 #1 hits such as “Where Is the Love” and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart”.  “It was one of the most exhilarating times of my career,” said Yu, “I knew I had the ability to help artists, producers and songwriters manifest their dreams.  When you help take someone from their mom’s couch to superstardom to seeing your clients playing to a crowd of over 1 million fans on the beach in Brazil it’s awe inspiring.”

Some of Helen Yu’s most challenging cases include successfully recovering the copyrights to the seminal T. Rex album, Electric Warrior, along with recovering a $30 million-dollar offshore trust for Marc Bolan’s only heir. Helen’s perseverance outlasted four decades of failed attempts by former lawyers, “It was the most intricate puzzle I had ever unraveled,” said Yu. 

Helen Yu has always been an advocate for hip-hop. Yu has represented and structured deals for Tupac Shakur’s prominent producer “Big D Evans” who produced the iconic songs, “If My Homie Calls,”  Brenda’s Got A Baby,” “Changes,” “N.I.G.G.A,” “Crooked Ni**a Too,” “Ghetto Gospel,” “Don’t U Trust Me?,” “Resist the Temptation,” “Dope Fiend’s Diner,” and “Papa’z Song,” among others. 20 years later, Yu’s versatile legal prowess has also solidified her as an essential quarterbacking lawyer for the newer generation of LA hip-hop icons, like Ty Dolla $ign. The firm and Helen also served as the mastermind and legal counsel for all deals on current hip-hop classic album, YG’s My Krazy Life, which achieved the #1 spot on both Billboard’s Top Rap Albums and Top R&B Hip-Hop Albums. Additionally, Yu Leseberg handled all legal for YG’s collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, and other hit records, including “My Ni**a” feat. Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, Meek Mill, “Who Do You Love” feat Drake, and one of Helen’s favorites, “I Just Wanna Party.”

Helen also handled all legal deals for DJ Mustard’s iconic hits:  Tyga’s “Rack City,”  2Chainz’s “I’m Different,” T-Pain’s “Up Down,” TeeFlii’s “This D,” will.i.am’s “Feeling Myself,” Trey Songz’ “Nana,” Tinashe’s “2On,” Big Sean’s “I Don’t *ck With You,” Wiz Khalifa feat. Snoop & Ty Dolla Sign’s “You and Your Friends,” Keyshia Cole’s “She,” French Montana’s “Don’t Panic” and other classics of “rachet” hip-hop.

Helen Yu also helped J. Cole’s label, Dreamville sign its very first artist with a record deal for one of her favorite rappers of all time, BAS, who worked on the album “Revenge of the Dreamers” alongside J. Cole and earned him his first GRAMMY. 

Helen’s versality includes the Latin Music market. She forecasted that the U.S. Latin population was a formidable one, long before Nielsen’s stats indicated the Latin buying power is over $1.5 Trillion. Yu has been representing mainstream Latin artists for the past 20 years, which began with Latin hip-hop label, Silent Giant Entertainment, and its principals Edward “E-Dub” Rios and Khool Aid. Her artist roster includes record-breaking No.1 Regional Mexican superstar Gerardo Ortiz, where her advocacy efforts aided in a victorious lawsuit with Del Records, affording Ortiz a lucrative move to Sony Latin Music. Additional successful Latin clients include Argentinian rap/trap star Paulo Londra,whoRolling Stone named as an artist to watch at the 2019 Latin GRAMMY Awards. Paulo Londra’s songs, “Adam & Eva” and “Tal Vez”, along with others, have secured over 3.1 billion streams,including his massive hit with Becky G, “Cuando Te Bese.” Paulo was also tapped by Ed Sheeran to collaborate on his 2019 album, No.6 Collaborations Project.
